The Model Aero Aqua Cat combines the versatility of our Polaris Seaplane and the superb flying qualities of the AeroCat. This “Hybrid” design results in a fast, stable aircraft that can fly off water, grass, or snow!
Like the Polaris, it features simple sheet foam construction and excellent handling qualities, both in the air and on the water. In flight this model is smooth and stable, yet also very aerobatic. On the water it tracks straight as an arrow and takes off and lands effortlessly. But one of the best things about this model is the amazing speed range-with the recommended power setup the top speed approaches 70 mph, yet the model slows down extremely well. This allows the model to be flown in very tight spaces if desired, or if you have a bigger flying site you can open it up and enjoy the speed. It handles wind and waves remarkably well, too. This model also flies very well off of grass or snow-takeoffs require only 10-20 feet and it can even taxi and do easy touch and goes off of grass. The Aqua Cat was designed to use a high kV brushless outrunner motor spinning a 6" or 7" diameter prop. Recommended motor setups include:
Power recommendations: We've been doing a lot of flight testing with the Aqua Cat and have settled on two power packages that work very well. The 2212-6 motor will offer the best performance, and is great if you have a lot of larger packs in the 2100 range. But we also like the 2212-10 running on a good 1300 or 1320 pack. If you have a bunch of 1300 or 1320 batteries and don't want to invest in larger batteries, the 2212-10 is a good option. We recommend cooling vents or a heat sink since the ESC is fully enclosed.
Optional Heat Sink: The optional heat sink provides additional cooling for the ESC. In fact, we've found by using the heat sink, additional venting is not necessary. This makes sealing up your Aqua Cat a snap! Simply trim off the shrink tube from the flat part of the ESC, apply a small amount of the included thermal paste to the heat sink, and then secure it with CA or epoxy.
